Axios Community
Church was birthed by the prayers of a small group of
believers in May of 2002. Our name was prayerfully chosen
and reveals a lot about the vision and nature of our
church.
AXIOS
This reveals our
prayer. Axios is a Greek word translated
"worthy" in the New Testament. It means to be
counted worthy, having merit, valuable, deserving. It is
found in a prayer that Paul prayed for the church in
Thessalonica in 2 Thessalonians 1:11-12 which says,
"With this in mind, we constantly pray for you, that
our God may count you worthy of His calling, and that by
His power He may fulfill every good purpose of yours and
every act prompted by your faith. We pray this so that
the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you, and
you in Him according to the grace of our God and the Lord
Jesus Christ."
Axios is an old word that has a new
sound. It speaks of our desire to be a church rooted in
the examples and teachings of the New Testament, yet
relevant to the contemporary, fast-paced world of today.
COMMUNITY
This reveals our
target. Our desire is to be a positive influence and make
a positive impact on our immediate community. We have
chosen not to be associated with any particular
denomination. This decision enables us to welcome people
from a wide variety of backgrounds.
CHURCH
This reveals our
heart. It says that we are a fellowship of believers
committed to the gospel of Jesus Christ and bound by love
to His leadership and example. He is the Head and we are
the members. Let us be a church where Christ is exalted
and where His love governs our actions.
